1960's / 1970's Varsity Jackets
The varsity jacket, also called letterman jacket, as been a staple of American causal style for almost a century.
It started with the Harvard University baseball team being the first one to wear a large H embroidered on their sweater, an initiative of the players themselves, & by the 1930’s leather sleeves and buttons were added to the sweater thus becoming the jacket that we know. By then, all the other Ivy League universities had follow their steps.
Through the years, it would then become a product of mainstream & pop culture.
Made of wool, usually with leather sleeves & matching pockets, it displays the famous school letter on the chest (letterman) as well as patches of the student’s specialty & rank.
